It's a great club for the price today and I think easier to hit for a forged iron than many other forged irons. I wish I could drop the rating which I gave to the Hogan Edge review 1/2 to 1 star.

They still won't replace my Maltby MMB's, but I can take them out with confidence and play as well as I can (or better than I could with big super game improvement clubs I just cannot hit). Well struck hits are more buttery smooth than the Apex Edge's and FTX's. I'm thinking the radial sole with the extra mass behind striking behind the ball makes them the wonderful clubs they are. My distance was not much shorter at all given, most likely, that the lofts are probably similar. The forged feel of these irons is very nice. I didn't really need to "dial" in my hitting of them as I had to with the Edge irons. With the Apex 4 shafts, they are a little stiff for me but manageable. Now with the Radial irons I feel like I've stepped up to a nicer iron for my game than the former two. The FTX's I started liking better than the Edge which I initially liked a lot. I have hit the Hogan Edge Forged, and Apex FTX and liked them very much too. However, the Ben Hogan Radials turned out to be a very nice club. I could not get a decent connect with them most of the time. I don't see how people can hit better with the GI Big Bertha's and their offset. I picked up my first set of these at a thrift store along with a set of Big Bertha 2004 irons (minus the 4 and 9 irons) for $2 per club. I like to try different clubs and see different progressions from different eras.

These are tremendous clubs and you can get them for peanuts on EBAY. I replaced it with a regular grip that I'm more used to which was a mistake because it changed the swing weight, making the club too "bottom heavy" for my liking. The set I got had fairly thick grips, one of which was badly worn. One factor to keep in mind is the grip size. Perhaps it's because of the extra weight, but you can barely feel the ball being hit (I guess that's the "buttery" feeling at contact that everybody is looking for). I think this has definitely improved my ball-striking.Īlthough the radials are a forged club designed to be more forgiving than other Hogan blades, I find that contact is actually superior to other blades. Swinging it, you can really feel the clubhead, which I find encourages me to "swing" the club rather that to "hit" the ball. It actually delicate, yet when you waggle it you can feel you've got something substantial in your hands. Fantastic clubs! Addressing the ball, you see a gorgeous compact chrome head with a thin top line. After reading that both Ben Hogan and Moe Norman played with very heavy clubs, I thought I'd try the heavy Hogan Radials made in the early 80's.
